Hardened glass like the near-ubiquitous Gorilla Glass from Corning has made capacitive touchscreens the standard way of interacting with a smartphone. Information technology's constantly improving, likewise. Gorilla Drinking glass is resistant to scratching, and newer screens won't crack nearly as easily equally they have in years by. It doesn't accept any bling, though. A company called Akhan Semiconductor says that information technology'due south close to releasing a diamond coating for drinking glass that would be even more than durable than Gorilla Drinking glass.

Corning, which recently announced Gorilla Glass five, makes the glass for most every loftier-end smartphone including the Galaxy S7 and new Note7. Apple tree also uses hardened drinking glass from Corning, but doesn't similar to talk specifics. Akhan Semiconductor says that its Akhan Miraj NCD diamond (that'southward quite a mouthful) material is four times every bit crack-resistant and seven times equally scratch-proof compared to Gorilla Glass.

Reflectivity is also an issue with materials like sapphire and diamond. Again, Akhan says this won't be a problem considering it "tunes" the crystals to lower the index of refraction.
